What Are The Meanings For Different Color Diamonds

By Yolanda Nash

On the day your handsome prince pops that all important question, it is the beginning of one of the most exciting and romantic periods in your life. The engagement ring he presents to you will be one you wear for many years to come, and you may want something different than the conventional crystal, clear colored diamond. There are diamonds of different hues and each one has a sentiment for giving behind it.

Pink Diamonds for a Creative Lady

If you are a creative and artistic type of person, wearing a pink diamond is a reflection of that aspect of your personality. Of course, you may only get a pink diamond if money is no object. A pink diamond is one of the rarest types in the world and those who purchase them have plenty of money to spend on this valued prize.

Yellow Diamonds for the Selfless Bride

If your fiancé thinks you are one of the most thoughtful and considerate people he knows, he may want to show his appreciation for those qualities by presenting you with a yellow diamond. The yellow diamond celebrates the sweetness of the bride’s personality as well as her willingness to come to the aid of others.

Blue Diamonds for Peace and Good Health

It is said that the groom who purchases a blue diamond for his soon to be bride will be promoting serenity and calm in all of their communication. This may be a lucky charm that keeps you from having a fight that may send you home, crying to your mother. The blue diamond also represents good health for the blushing bride to be.

The Bold and Beautiful Red Diamond

If the groom looks on his future bride as a source of strength and stability, he may consider purchasing an engagement ring that is a beautiful shade of red. It is thought that a red diamond is also a tool to relieve stress, so it can help your emotional and mental health once you begin your journey of life together.

Deciding what color and style of engagement ring may be a daunting task for many prospective grooms. You can drop hints by pointing out the styles and designs you like for an engagement ring. When your groom uses color to make a statement of his love for his new bride, it shows that he too is kind and considerate and is dedicated to showing his new wife just how much she means to him.

If you need some wedding favors such as beach wedding favors, silver wedding favors, coaster favors and more we got you covered.

Also we have a wide variety of bottle stopper favors that will be great for your cocktail hour.

Don’t forget the ladies either purchase them some nice bridesmaid gifts they’ll love.

Story Natural Color Diamond Association

NATURAL fancy yellow diamonds are cherished for their subtly dramatic appeal, and for their unique glow that illuminates the woman who wears them, regardless of the particular shade of yellow she chooses. The presence of colour in these stones is an entirely natural process, occurring so rarely that regardless of shade, natural yellow diamonds are all unique, rare and valuable. The yellow colour is the result of nitrogen, found in the earth millions of years ago, imparting various shades of yellow, from the palest tint to vivid canary to warm golds and orange.

Fancy yellow diamonds are valued based on the rarity of colour, the intensity of colour, the variations of colour and the size of the diamond. The most rare and therefore most valuable fancy yellow diamond is a pure
vivid yellow, often called ‘Canary’, followed by intense yellow and then a light yellow. The latter represents
the least rare and therefore the least expensive variation of natural yellow.

Yellow diamonds are found in various countries, but notably large and intense yellows have been discovered
primarily in South Africa, including the largest known canary diamond at 205cts, known as The Red Cross.

This stone was presented to Christies on behalf of the British Red Cross Society and is particularly interesting because an image of the Maltese Cross is clearly visible on its top facet. The Incomparable, a 407ct diamond of deep brownish yellow, was found in the Congo and is the third largest diamond in the world.

Noble Fancy
These two exceptional yellow diamonds were the top lots at Sotheby’s sale of Noble Jewels in May. One is a cushionshaped diamond weighing 102.54cts, the other a pear-shaped weighing 82.48cts. Known as the Donnersmarck Diamonds, they were believed to be originally in the collection of La Paiva, a celebrated courtesan of France’s Third Empire. She was first married to the Portuguese Marquess de Paiva, which allowed her to acquire some fabulous jewels. But it was with her second husband, Count Guido Henckel von Donnersmarck, that she amassed even more spectacular jewels, rivalling those of the Empress.

Yellow diamonds have always been reserved for spectacular displays of fashion on the red carpet. Marilyn Monroe wore the 24ct natural yellow Moon of Baroda to the premiere of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. And each year we continue to see Hollywood’s most famous choosing yellow diamonds to draw the world’s attention. At this year’s Academy Awards and Golden Globes, Emily Blunt wore 12ct canary yellow drop earrings, Kate Winslet selected stunning 4ct yellow cluster earrings, and Penelope Cruz donned 20ct yellow diamond flower earrings.Natural fancy yellow diamonds also make a sophisticated alternative to the traditonal colourless engagement ring. This is an option favoured by actress Rebecca Romijn, supermodel Heidi Klum and socialite Paris Hilton. Selecting natural fancy yellow diamonds for an engagement ring creates a unique statement, whether the diamond is used as a centrestone or as a colour accent. Consumer research indicates that women who choose natural
yellow diamonds are confident, intelligent and worldly.

The most widely available shapes for fancy yellow diamonds are square cuts such as Princess, Radiant, Ascher, Emerald and Cushion. Other cuts such as Oval, Heart and Marquise are also wonderful in natural yellow.

However, it is much more difficult to find yellow diamonds cut as Rounds or Brilliants. Natural colour diamonds are the hardest naturally occurring substances known, and like their colourless counterparts, yellow diamonds should be cared for in the same way:
- Do not store diamond jewellery together, as one diamond can scratch another.
- Do not wear diamond jewellery while doing heavy work so as not to loosen the setting.
- Have your diamond jewellery checked by a professional jeweller every six months, and professionally cleaned at least once a year.

There are several ways that yellow diamonds can be treated or enhanced. To protect yourself from buying such
items unknowingly, always request for a diamond report from an accredited diamond grading laboratory, certifying that the diamond is natural.

Fancy Yellow Radiant Cut Diamond

David Federman

Modern Jeweler

People forget that before diamond cutter Henry Grossbard invented the radiant cut in 1977, most rectangular diamonds trapped, rather than tripped, the light fantastic. As a result, they looked more like pieces of glass than things of class. With their large tables, shallow crowns and, worst of all, their top and bottom rows of full-length step-cut facets running parallel to the table, they were perfect examples of what not to do when cutting diamonds—unless, of course, you wanted them with what one recalcitrant defender of step cuts then called “restrained brilliance.”Fancy Yellow Radiant Cut Diamond from Novelle Collection

To Grossbard, such phrases were euphemisms for dead and dull. Grossbard salvaged the sullied reputation of the rectangular diamond by turning it from a step cut into a modified brilliant cut. Once he did so, the chronic light-leakage problem of this shape was solved and a spate of hybrids that mixed step and brilliant cutting followed. Indeed, the steady stream of renovated step cuts continues to this day.

Fancy Yellow Diamond

Source: Modern Jeweler

The stone that kicked off South Africa’s diamond rush in 1868 was a 21-caNatural Yellow Diamondrat yellow rough that was later cut into a 10.73-carat oval cushion called the “Eureka.” This find would have seemed to augur great things for the world supply of colored diamonds, especially those of the yellow variety, which until then had been as rare as any other color.

Fate had nothing that grandiose in mind. Instead, South Africa merely swelled the number of what the trade has ever since called “cape” (after South Africa’s Cape of Good Hope) diamonds. These are stones whose yellow content is generally not considered a plus. But when the yellow was sufficient to give the diamond an identity as a full-fledged colored stone, it was deemed “canary.” Today, such diamonds are more apt to be called “fancy yellow.”
